Baby John Movie Review and release LIVE Updates: Varun Dhawan impresses as an action hero in a familiar narrative

“Baby John,” the latest action thriller starring Varun Dhawan, premiered today, December 25, 2024, coinciding with Christmas. Directed by Kalees, the film is a Hindi remake of the 2016 Tamil hit “Theri.” Dhawan portrays DCP Satya Verma, an upright police officer who adopts the alias Baby John to protect his daughter after a tragic encounter with a powerful politician, Babbar Sher, played by Jackie Shroff.

Critics have lauded Dhawan’s dynamic performance, noting his adeptness in balancing the dual aspects of a devoted father and a resolute law enforcer. The Times of India remarked that his portrayal “adds depth and conviction to the otherwise predictable narrative.” Keerthy Suresh, making her Hindi film debut as the female lead, and Wamiqa Gabbi have also received commendations for their performances, despite some critiques regarding the development of their characters.

The film’s action sequences and emotional depth have been highlighted as strengths, though some reviewers point out the storyline’s reliance on familiar tropes. Hindustan Times described the film as “choppy and soulless for the most part,” yet acknowledged Dhawan’s efforts in elevating the material.

Audience reactions have been mixed, with some praising the film as a “holiday treat” and a “crown jewel of modern cinema,” while others express reservations about its predictability.

“Baby John” is currently showing in theaters nationwide, offering viewers an action-packed cinematic experience this holiday season.
